Ever gone walking with 8,000 of your closest friends? Me neither.

However, Alison and I decided we'd give it a try on the 2007 Crazy Horse Volksmarch. I had only a faint idea of what a volksmarch was before this walk. For the uninitiated, a volksmarch is a non-competitive 10 kilometer walk. Evidently, the phenomenon of volksmarching started in Europe and has spread throughout the world. Who knew?

Anyway, Alison and I really just wanted to walk to the top of Crazy Horse, so we showed up for the volksmarch. Here are some photos from the event.

CRW_0146 We were directed to our special parking lot, which was about one quarter of a mile from the start of the march. I guess we actually walked 6.5 miles then, huh?

At this point, I should tell you that the actual distance from the visitor's center to the top of Crazy Horse is probably only one mile. However, they took us on a circuitous route through the woods. Before going, Alison and I had wondered how they would turn a short hike into 10 kilometers.
