home : about me

Me.

Everyone has their reason for existence, right? At least, everyone but nihilists has a reason for living. Although, I suppose they live for nothing which could be a reason. Does the absence of something become an entity? I digress.

If you intend to discover my reason for existence by reading this page, then I suggest you pause and consider if that's a worthy goal, because I doubt you'll find it. However, if you do, please contact me.

Currently, my residence is in Wall, SD, where I am the pastor for the United Methodist Church. The parish comprises Wall and Wasta. I've lived there since July of 2005. Moving is difficult for many people. It is not for me. I grew up an Army brat, and because of that have lived in a multitude of locales, notably Alaska and Panama. From my experience, I feel that every place has a certain inherent beauty.

I attended seminary at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO, and I greatly enjoyed living in Denver. While in seminary, I had the pleasure of my spouse, Alison, supporting me financially. There is quite a bit of pleasure out of being the bread-receiver (instead of winner), and I look forward to some day when her library career will support the both of us. My second two years in seminary, I was the student pastor at Washington Park United Methodist Church

One of my passions is photography. I am in the endless pursuit of a nice photo, when I have my camera, that is. I dabble in photojournalistic photography and landscapes. Although my primary camera now is a Canon EOS D60, I have owned a Canon A1 SLR, Canon SureShot Point and Shoot, and a circa 1960 Yashicamat Twin Lens Reflex camera. An unexhaustive list of my current gear includes: Canon D60, Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, Canon 100-200mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lens, Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 lens, Bogen 3221 Tripod with 3447 head, Lowepro S&F Rover AW backpack, and a military surplus canvas shoulder bag I have modified to hold photographic gear (for when the backpack is intrusive).

My friends, especially my wife, find that my computer hobby sometimes becomes almost as obsessive as my photography. While in college, I had four computers in my dorm room, and two computers at my parent's house. The four computers in my dorm room are mainly for fun and learning: a laptop, a workstation, a server, and an older computer running Linux. Nowadays I try to keep my computers to a minimum and only have three computers in the house running: my workstation (work is probably a misnomer, gamestation would be more appropriate), an Apple iBook, and an Apple Powerbook. I used to host a server in the house, but the fan noise was intrusive.

Other passions/hobbies of mine include running long distances, bicycling (especially off road), tinkering with things, woodworking, playing guitar, and a few others that I can't think of right now.

That's about all there is to know about me. If you have any questions, please email me.
